My long term interest in the history of medicine led to short articles about medicine history in our monthly pharmacy newsletter. Encouraging feedback from pharmacists and others resulted in the expanded one page stories used as the main page for our monthly newsletter.

These monthly short stories started with extracts from the “great moments in pharmacy” published by Parke Davis and Company in 1965. Permission to reproduce these extracts was kindly granted by Pfizer Inc who now hold rights to the publication.

This was followed by the current series focusing on medicines to treat heart problems, cardiovascular medicines.

It was suggested we add these history of medicine stories to our web site so others could have a read if interested and briefly look into the fascinating world from which our life saving medicines come. This helps bring to life the stories of the scientists involved, and shows how one discovery leads to another . . . how accidental observations have had major impacts on medicine advances . . . how important the curiosity factor has been, and how important it has been to have the courage to believe in oneself in the face of academic opposition.

These stories help us appreciate how important medicine research and development is as we look forward to new advances in medicines.

Note: These history stories are by their nature brief and to the best of my ability fair and reasonable. I have used mainstream publications and respected net searches.

I hope that these stories may stimulate people into reading more about the fascinating history of medicine.
